Dodger girls can’t stop SL

STORM LAKE — The Fort Dodge girls couldn’t shake Storm Lake on Thursday night.

The Dodgers (7-13 overall) dropped their fifth straight game, losing 58-32 to the Tornadoes (12-7).

The Dodgers clung with Storm Lake in the first half, training 10-6 at the end of one quarter and only down nine at the half (23-14).

The Tornadoes, though, broke the game open with an extended run to start the third.

“We played a solid first half with 12 turnovers, but five in the last minute and half,” said FDSH head coach Scott Messerly. “We stopped guarding as well as we had on the perimeter, and the threes were open for them. We just didn’t respond.

“It was a good effort overall. I thought we just got tired and missed some shots in the first half we normally make.”

LJ Maehl led the Dodgers in scoring with 19 points. Janelle Derrig and Meah McCaleb added four points each.

Ellie Doster, Brooklyn Pommer and Dakota Pommer had two points each.

Avery DeHaan led the Tornadoes with 13 points, while Adeeya Yanga had 12 and Maddy Raveling added 11.

The Dodgers are back in action on Friday when they travel to Des Moines North.

Starting at $2.99/week.
