St. Edmond boys lose to No. 2 Lions

CLEAR LAKE — The St. Edmond boys capped off a tough week with a 69-39 loss to North Central Conference leader Clear Lake here Friday night.

The second-ranked (3A) Lions (9-0) have dominated league play, earning consecutive wins by at least 24 points over the Gaels, Webster City and Humboldt.

After starting the year 6-0, third-ranked St. Edmond has dropped two straight on the road. They will remain away from home next week with three games beginning Monday night at Eagle Grove.

“We focused on playing harder and more consistent compared to (Tuesday night),” SEHS head coach Adolph Kochendorfer said. “That’s what we talked about and that’s what we saw from them. We just have to have that consistency, focus and intensity throughout in games.”

Hunter Horn led the Gaels with 14 points while Carson Bargfrede added 10. Bargfrede made his return to the court following a knee injury late in December.

Pacing Clear Lake was Carson Riser’s 20 points as Jaxson McIntire and Thomas Meyer each had 12.

“They started to hit some three-pointers as we helped inside,” Kochendorfer said. “Give them credit, because they found the open guy and made shots.”

Along with heading to Eagle Grove on Monday, the Gaels are at Iowa Falls-Alden on Tuesday, at Manson Northwest Webster Thursday and travel to Webster City Friday.
