The St. Edmond girls were poised to extend their current win streak here Tuesday night against Iowa Falls-Alden.

A tough stretch in the fourth quarter, though, allowed the Cadets to post a 63-44 victory inside the SEHS gym.

The Gaels (5-7 overall, 1-5 in North Central Conference) were playing back at home for the first time since December. Josie Harvey led the way with 16 points while Abby Huss sank four 3-pointers for 12.

“We had some adversity (Tuesday night),” SEHS head coach CJ Tracy said. “We have to find a way to fight through that kind of adversity when it hits us on the floor. I thought the girls did everything they could to deal with it.”

Iowa Falls-Alden (8-7, 3-4) completed the season sweep, winning for the 17th time in the series. Freshman Elody England had a game-high 20 points with 14 coming in the second half when the Cadets outscored the Gaels, 43-23.

Cidni Phipps joined her in double figures with 16 points, as Iowa Falls-Alden knocked down seven triples to help them overcome 19 turnovers.

“Our defense did a great job all night,” Tracy said. “They hit some shots when we didn’t rotate, and obviously they benefited from making 17 free throws.”

St. Edmond used a 10-3 run to gain control of the game early, as Payton Bradley sank a 3-pointer. A second triple in the quarter from Huss made it 14-6 after the opening eight minutes.

The Gaels would hold the lead until the first possession of the third quarter, as Iowa Falls-Alden went on a mini-run behind England, who scored the first nine points for her team.

Holding a 40-37 lead, the Cadets benefited from a six-point swing in their direction, as Phipps was 3 of 4 at the free throw line following two technical fouls being called on the St. Edmond bench. Brooklyn Handeland knocked down a 3-pointer on the same possession, spearing a 10-1 run.

Anna Lursen pulled down 10 rebounds for St. Edmond, with Harvey doing the same for a double-double.

The Gaels are off until next Tuesday when they host Algona.
