Playing back at home for the first time in 2025, the ninth-ranked (Class 1A) St. Edmond boys looked a little rusty to start here Tuesday night.

But once they got rolling, Iowa Falls-Alden proved little resistance.

Hunter Horn led four players in double figures with 27 points as St. Edmond picked up a 73-60 victory to complete a season sweep over the Cadets.

Andrew Clavey and Carson Bargfrede each scored 11 for the Gaels (11-2 overall, 6-2 in North Central Conference), as Jakob Koopman added 10 points and 11 rebounds.

For the Cadets (3-10, 2-5), Kale Kalous scored 19 and Karsen Kalous added 16, with 13 of those coming in the fourth.

St. Edmond has now won five in a row overall and three straight in the series with Iowa Falls-Alden.

“It was good to see our guards rebound as well as they did,” SEHS head coach Adolph Kochendorfer said. “We can’t always rely on Hunter to get 15 rebounds a game. For us to be a good team and to beat good teams, we have to have that out of those guys.”

Clavey, a senior, grabbed seven boards with Grant Galles adding five to go along with his eight points. Jack McElroy recorded eight rebounds and two steals.

“When we are getting that kind of rebounding production from everybody, it allows us to get out and score in transition,” Kochendorfer said. “We were able to do a better job of that after a slow start.”

The Cadets took an early lead, scoring the first seven points of the game. They led 10-2 before the Gaels were able to trim the deficit to just five heading into the second.

From that point on, it was all St. Edmond, as they would lead 30-27 at the break. An 11-0 run to start the third gave the Gaels control of the contest, as Clavey hit two triples and Horn joined him with six points in the period.

“That is always so important to come out of the half and put together a strong run,” Kochendorfer said. “Andrew really stepped up and made some big shots, as did Grant.

“(Iowa Falls-Alden) hit some 35-footers there in the fourth to kind of make a run on us, but those are the kind of shots we can live with.”

St. Edmond will put its win streak on the line back here Friday when they host Clarion-Goldfield/Dows at 7:45 p.m.
