Busy week for Gaels
A busy week awaits the St. Edmond basketball teams starting Monday, with all the action being on the road.
Up first for St. Edmond will be a doubleheader at Eagle Grove.
For the Gael boys (6-2 overall), they will play four games this week, as a North Central Conference contest with Iowa Falls-Alden was postponed earlier this year and will be made up Tuesday. The SEHS girls already played the Cadets in Iowa Falls.
Both teams return to the court Thursday at Manson Northwest Webster before closing things out Friday at Webster City.
After starting the year off with six straight wins, St. Edmond fell last week to Humboldt and Clear Lake. Hunter Horn led the Gaels in scoring in both games, as fellow junior Carson Bargfrede made his return to the court after suffering an injury late last month.
Eagle Grove (4-6) is led by senior Abraham Lin, who averages just under 19 points per game. Jaxon Morris and Adrian Whipple are both in double figures.
Like the Gaels, Iowa Falls-Alden also played Monday night at South Hardin. Kale Kalous paces the Cadets at 22 points per game.
Manson Northwest Webster’s leading scorer is senior Logan Moline, who has committed to Buena Vista University. The Cougars came into the week 8-3 overall, having won three of their last five.
To close out the week, St. Edmond returns to NCC play at Webster City. Cole Miller, Carter Mickelson and Conner Peck are the top scorers for the Lynx.
Since a win over South Hamilton in Des Moines from Wells Fargo Arena, the Gaels (2-7) have dropped two in a row. Sophomore Chloe Palmer leads the team in scoring followed by seniors Josie Harvey and Payton Bradley, who has missed the last few games.
Anna Lursen is averaging over 11 rebounds per game and leads the Gaels in assists.
Eagle Grove’s leading scorer is freshman Taytum Edwards, with classmate Adelie Pamperin second.
Manson Northwest Webster features a new head coach in Emily Wolfe, who has taken over for Bret Larson. Senior Sophia McCullough averages over 19 points and almost nine rebounds a night.
Like the Cougars, Webster City is under new leadership, as former Lynx boys head coach Marty McKinney is in his first season. Senior Olivia Gallentine leads the Lynx in scoring and rebounding.
