Another three-game week for Fort Dodge

Another three-game week awaits the Fort Dodge basketball teams, as the Dodgers continue their busy January stretch on Monday at Humboldt first before diving back into Iowa Alliance Conference Northern Division play.

The Dodger girls (6-7 overall) and boys (2-9) face the Wildcats first in a make-up twinbill from earlier this season. On Tuesday, Fort Dodge welcomes Waterloo East to the Dodger gym.

FDSH closes at Mason City on Friday.

All varsity girls contests are scheduled to tip off at 6:15 p.m., with the boys to follow.

Head coach Scott Messerly’s squad routed Des Moines East and Des Moines Hoover to inch closer to the break-even mark, and will now take on Humboldt (7-6) before squaring off with the Trojans (5-7) and Riverhawks (8-4).

Junior LJ Maehl is now averaging 19.2 points and 7.9 rebounds after putting up a combined 57 points and 31 boards in the two wins last week. At 818 career points, Maehl now ranks sixth on the program’s all-time 5-on-5 scoring charts.

Senior Meah McCaleb is next in line at 8.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 4.8 steals.

Senior Morgan Mann is scoring at a 16.9-point clip for the Wildcats, with junior Ava Fischer (13.4) also in double figures.

East, which has won three in a row, is led by a balanced attack of juniors Graysyn Downing and Siyanna Cody, as well as senior Ja’Miah Ceaser.

Mason City, which has a four-game win streak of its own, has seniors Machaela Trask (11.8 points) and Zaria Falls (11.0) at the head of the pack.

The Humboldt boys are 7-4 and winners of five straight. The Trojans are 6-5 with three consecutive victories, while the Riverhawks are 6-4.

Senior Elliot Carlson (24.4-point average) has been on a tear for the Wildcats, with 127 points in his last four games.

East is paced by seniors Da’Shaundis Moore (16.8 points) and Jeremiah Clark (14.5). Mason City has junior Ty Sanchez-Evans (13.1), junior Marcele Whitner (13.1) and senior Andrew Novak (10.2) averaging in double digits.

Starting at $2.99/week.
