Two long road trips for Dodgers
The Fort Dodge girls wrestling team will have two long road trips this weekend.
The Dodgers will head to Waverly-Shell Rock on Tuesday and then travel to Council Bluffs for a two-day tournament on Friday and Saturday.
Fort Dodge is coming off a weekend at the Dan Gable Donnybrook.
Junior Mariaha Benedict became Fort Dodge’s first Donnybrook champion, winning the 135 pound bracket.
Freshman Makayla Liska (155) was seventh, while classmate Brooklyn Nelson placed 10th.
The fifth-ranked (IAwrestle) Benedict placed fifth last year at the Council Bluffs Classic. Benedict also had a strong showing at Waverly, winning the championship.
The Dodger junior is 18-1 this season and 92-23 in her career.
Action begins at 4 p.m. on Tuesday and noon on Friday. Saturday’s action will be at 9:30 a.m.
