The St. Edmond wrestling team opened North Central Conference competition on Tuesday night.

“It was great to be at home,” said St. Edmond first year head coach Kaden McClintock. “We’re not usually at home early in the season, so it was nice to be in front of the home crowd.”

The Gaels lost to Clear Lake 54-18 and fell to Iowa Falls-Alden 58-6.

In the dual against Clear Lake, St. Edmond won three matches, two by forfeit.

“Drake (Yurokovac) came out for wrestling on the first day of practice,” McClintock. “He got his first takedown against Iowa Falls, so we are celebrating small victories right now. Getting his first takedown at the varsity level is great.

“Grant Anderson is making improvements.”

Eleventh-ranked (IAwrestle) Sam Myer earned a fall in 1:14 over Cayden Van Voorhis at 144 pounds.

Matthew Crimmins (132) and Yurovac (138) both picked up forfeit wins for the Gaels.

Myer finished the night with two victories, pinning Iowa Falls-Alden’s Levi Langfitt in 1:39 at 144 pounds.

“It was a great night for Sam,” McClintock said. “He is maintaining weight and getting to 144. He looked great.”

The Gaels are back in action on Saturday when they compete at the Emmetsburg Invitational.

Starting at $2.99/week.
