Gael boys easily lasso Cowboys

CLARION — The St. Edmond boys basketball squad found their offensive rhythm early in a 73-39 victory over Clarion-Goldfield/Dows here on Friday.

Junior Hunter Horn had 25 points to pace the Gaels (2-0 overall), who won for the second time in the opening week of the season. St. Edmond had toppled Bishop Garrigan at home on Monday.

“We came out and played pretty good defense and rebounded well,” SEHS head coach Adolph Kochendorfer said. “Offensively, once we got a few more touches and made the extra pass or a ball reversal, we found a nice rhythm.

“They played zone and were sagging to (try and neutralize Horn). We had open looks, but showed more patience and got even better ones as the (first half) progressed.”

A number of other Gaels contributed offensively, with Jakob Koopman adding 11 points, and Andrew Clavey, Ty Mericle and Grant Galles contributing nine each.

“It’s always good to get a win on the road,” Kochendorfer said. “There are a lot of variables to it. You just never know. We’re going to be (away from home) for a while, so we have to get comfortable with it.”

St. Edmond returns to action at Southeast Valley on Tuesday.
