E-Hawks fall to South Hardin

ELDORA — The Emmetsburg football team suffered a heartbreaking 27-20 loss to South Hardin here Friday night in a 1A contest.

South Hardin (8-1 overall) will now meet Dike-New Hartford in the Pod B final, after the Wolverines handled South Hamilton, 55-22.

With the game tied at 20-all late in the fourth, South Hardin’s Sam Benson picked off a pass and returned it for a score, pushing the Tigers ahead for good.

The E-Hawks (8-2) had an early lead before Peyton Welch fired off back-to-back passing TDs to put South Hardin ahead. Emmetsburg reclaimed the advantage just before half, 13-12, and extended its lead to 20-12 when they returned the second half kickoff.

For the E-Hawks, this was the final game for seniors Byron Maina, Carson Baak, Gavin Swanson, Bronson Dietrich, Cameron Madden, Collyn Trembly, Justin Wirtz, Tyler Albrant, Tanner Reinholdt, Keegan Hamerlinck, Carter Hudson and JJ Fiene.

Rams can’t stop Monroe-PCM

MONROE — The Greene County football team bowed out of the Class 2A playoffs here Friday night, falling to Monroe-PCM, 48-6.

The Rams (5-5 overall) bounced back this season after going 3-6 a year ago, giving them a sixth season of finishing at least .500 over the last seven years.

Monroe-PCM (10-0) advances to face Mid-Prairie (7-3), a 35-14 winner over Mediapolis last night.

For Greene County, this marked the final time in a Ram uniform for seniors Nick Stream, Camden Strennen, Camden Jacobs, Crew Conner, Patrick Graham, Braeden Turner, Bryce Habben, Marcus Ball and Kamden Kinne.
