Area teams earn playoff assignments
The playoffs are set for Messenger-area schools in eight-player, Class A, 1A and 2A for this coming Friday night.
St. Edmond will make its postseason debut in eight-player, hitting the road to take on Janesville. Bishop Garrigan, the defending state champion, hosts Tripoli in eight-player action.
A third eight-player team, West Bend-Mallard, will face Remsen St. Mary’s, who won the state title in 2022 before being knocked off by the Golden Bears last year in the quarterfinals.
South Central Calhoun meets Tri-Center in A while both Manson Northwest Webster and Emmetsburg host in 1A.
The Cougars, who stunned the E-Hawks in Manson last week to claim the district title, drew Hudson while Emmetsburg gets Grand View Christian. East Sac County, out of the same district as those two, travels to Woodward-Granger.
In 2A, Greene County meets Clarinda on the road.
The 3A, 4A and 5A playoff pairings will be announced Saturday following the conclusion of the regular season for those classes this week.
