The Fort Dodge boys golf team returned home after a recent surge and continued to play well on Tuesday.

The Dodgers were clipped by Des Moines Roosevelt in a triangular at the Fort Dodge Country Club, 160-170. Des Moines East (212) was a distant third.

Junior Jaxson Dencklau and sophomore Mason Frevert tied for third place overall, as both carded 41s on the FDCC’s front nine. Sophomores Bo Marsh and Davis Underberg rounded out the varsity scoring with 44s.

“The kids did a good job of scoring without their best stuff,” FDSH head coach Nick Vinson said. “It’s nice to see them learning how to grind out decent rounds despite maybe not hitting as well as they’d liked.

“It was also good to end our nine-hole meets (for the season) with the lowest score of the year.”

Dencklau tallied three pars and a birdie, but was hindered by a pair of double bogeys. Frevert had three pars and six bogeys.

Sophomore Trace Rial (47) and junior Gavin Davis (48) rounded out the Dodger scorecard.

Roughriders Tony Song and Harrison Elliott had 38s to tie for meet medalist honors. Sawyer Evans (42), Marcus Clutter (42) and Finley Newman (43) followed for Roosevelt.

Sam Davidson (47) and Alex Berger (53) paced the FDSH JV squad.

The Dodgers continue their busy stretch on Wednesday at the Southeast Polk Invitational. The 18-hole meet is at Copper Creek, beginning at 9 a.m.

Fort Dodge played last Thursday, and will be on the course Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday this week. The Dodgers’ 327 on Monday in Indianola was the program’s best 18-hole performance since 2012, with Frevert (76) turning in the lowest individual score in the last 12 years as well.

Starting at $2.99/week.
