Fort Dodge boys golf squad in action at Bowman Invite
AMES — The Fort Dodge boys golf squad played in the Turk Bowman Invitational on Monday at Veenker Memorial Golf Course.
The Dodgers placed 16th overall with a 364. West Des Moines Valley was the champion, firing an incredible nine-under par 279 among the four counters.
Junior Jaxson Dencklau paced the Dodgers with a 44-44–88. Dencklau had seven pars and a birdie.
Sophomore Mason Frevert (46-43–89) was right behind. Frevert recorded eight pars and a birdie.
Sophomore Davis Underberg (44-47–91) and sophomore Bo Marsh (53-43–96) had the other FDSH counting scores.
Braeden Nelson of Valley carded a round of six-under par 66 to claim medalist honors. Johnston’s Andrew Johannsen (68) and Valley’s C.T. Norris (70) were next in line, followed by Jonathan Ward of Waukee, Ankeny Centennial’s Charlie Morrissey and Valley’s Aiden McGreen at one-under 71.
The Tigers were 11 strokes clear of Johnston (290) in the team race, with Dallas Center-Grimes and Centennial (299) tying for third.
Fort Dodge returns to action on Thursday at the Joe August Invitational in Marshalltown. Tee time is set for 10 a.m.
