FD’s Vogel wins in Mason City
MASON CITY — The Fort Dodge swim team competed in Mason City on Saturday.
Hailey Vogel was the lone winner for the Dodgers.
Vogel won the 50 freestyle in a time of 25.17. Athieno Wandera of Newton (25.34) was second.
Julia Eastman came away with two runner up showings.
“That was an awesome time for Hailey,” said Fort Dodge head coach Ashley Beaumont. “She was nice and relaxed and she is at a good place to be. She continues to push hard.”
Eastman was second in the 200 IM. She finished in 2:16.22. Spencer’s Halie Sears (2:11.06) was the winner.
Eastman finished as a runner up (1:00.62) to Willa Hage (59.87) of Newton in the 100 backstroke.
“Those are the best times that Julia has had,” Beaumont said. “She is less than a second from the school record.”
Vogel was third in the 100 butterfly (1:04.69).
The Dodgers were fourth in the 200 medley relay. Eastman, Vogel, Gracie Harvey and Addison Daniel finished fourth in the 200 (1:58.16).
The same quartet was fifth in the 200 freestyle relay (1:50.54).
“It was actually a great meet,” Beaumont said. “All of the girls dropped times in something and really had good swims.”
The Dodgers are back in action on Tuesday when they host Des Moines Roosevelt. Action begins at 5:30 p.m.
