All-District honors handed out
Three Dodgers and two Gaels were honored as all-district softball selections by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association.
Fort Dodge’s Hope Alstott, Ellie Doster and Lucy Porter were named in Class 4A along with their coach, Andi Adams. For St. Edmond, Mariah Myers and Kaili Henning made the 1A squad.
All five were also all-state picks by the IGCA.
Seventeen other area players made their respective all-district teams in Delainey Bargfrede of Webster City in 4A along with Southeast Valley’s Chloe Lambert and Eagle Grove’s Addyson Jeske in 3A.
From 2A, Manson Northwest Webster’s Rilynn Lawman and Alyssa Richman, Pocahontas Area’s Addison Lawson and and Lauren Hoover, Emmetsburg’s Rachel Schany and Saige Brown, and North Union’s Beth Streuber, Ainsley Ulrich and Brylie Deim were named while other 1A picks included Bishop Garrigan’s Abbie Capesius and Hanna Merron, along with Newell-Fonda’s Kierra Jungers, Isabel Bartek and Kinzee Hinders.
Alstott, a freshman, did not strikeout in 44 games and 121 at-bats while recording a team-high 52 hits and scoring a 52 runs. Doster, also a soon-to-be sophomore, led FDSH with 43 RBI, 14 doubles and had 51 hits while Porter, a junior who has committed to Minnesota State University, won 19 games and had 170 strikeouts inside the circle.
Myers, a junior who has signed with the University of Iowa, ranked among the state’s best in batting average and slugging while hitting 14 homers. She did not strikeout in 27 games played. Henning, the lone senior for the Gaels, won 16 games and had 161 strikeouts.
Alstott, Porter, Henning, Bargfrede, Lawson and Capesius were all repeat honorees.
Fort Dodge tied for fifth at state and St. Edmond placed fourth overall.
Williamsburg’s Adam C. Berte, a former Twin River Valley and Iowa Central standout, was named a coach of the year in 3A. Berte led the Raiders to their second consecutive state title this past summer.
