Eagle Grove ready for challenge

BENTON — The Eagle Grove softball team will try to punch their first ticket to state since 2004 when they take on top-ranked Benton here Tuesday night in a Class 3A regional final.

First pitch is set for 7 p.m.

The Eagles (17-7 overall) advanced with a 2-1 win over Southeast Valley in dramatic fashion when Crystal Flores drove in Brylee Mrla in the bottom of the seventh of a regional semifinal.

Senior Brooklyn Osborn fired a six-hitter, striking out six. Senior Nadia Kaiser had three hits and drove in a run.

Junior Addyson Jeske is hitting a team-leading .468 with 33 steals, 31 runs and 15 RBI for Eagle Grove. Kaiser has 23 RBI and a .333 batting average.

Osborn owns 13 wins with 93 strikeouts inside the circle.

Benton escaped with an 11-10 victory over conference rival Grinnell in the regional semis. Ana Glawe is hitting .469 with 62 RBI, 13 homers and 10 doubles on the year while Jessa DeMoss has 19 wins and 128 strikeouts.
