Dodgers fall to DM Roosevelt

WEST DES MOINES — The Fort Dodge baseball team ran into a buzzsaw in Friday’s Class 4A postseason opener.

The Dodgers (19-22 overall) fell to Des Moines Roosevelt 15-0 in four innings. The Roughriders (27-14) pounded out 15 hits.

Andrew Swanda tossed a one-hitter while striking out five and walking zero.

Fort Dodge senior Jace Johnson had the lone Dodger hit.

Roosevelt scored runs in all four innings with the big frames coming with six and five in the third and fourth respectively.

Four of the 15 Roughrider hits were for extra bases as George Bell, Mays Perlowski, Jake Espeland and Kanoa Lin all had doubles.

Perlowski was 3-for-3 with two RBI and three runs scored. Espeland, Lin, Bell, Bo Gostomski and Evan Smithson had two hits each.

Bell drove in five runs, while Espeland had three. Lin and Perlowski had two RBI each.

This was the third victory of the season for the Roughriders over the Dodgers, as they beat Fort Dodge at Ed McNeil Field, 5-0 and 4-0 in the middle of June.

This was the last game in a Dodger uniform for Johnson and fellow senior Karch Smith.

Starting at $2.99/week.
