Dodgers edged by Warriors

WAUKEE — The fourth-ranked (Class 4A) Fort Dodge softball team came up short here Monday night vs. No. 14 (5A) Waukee, 3-2.

After the Warriors (17-17 overall) plated three runs in the first, the Dodgers (28-11) answered back with a pair in the third and had the tying and go-ahead runs in scoring position in the fifth. They were never able to get over the hump, though.

Maeleena Meyer had two hits, a stolen base and scored a run for Fort Dodge while Lucy Porter had an RBI. Meah McCaleb and Ellie Doster each collected a hit, with McCaleb scoring a run.

Porter struck out four and allowed just five hits inside the circle.

Fort Dodge ends the regular season Tuesday at No. 3 (5A) Johnston. First pitch in the varsity contest is set for 7 p.m.

Starting at $2.99/week.
