Josh Griep drove in five and Braylon Dyvig limited St. Edmond to just five hits as the Webster City baseball team completed a season sweep of the Gaels here Monday night, 11-0 in six innings.

Briar Klaver added three hits, scored three times and drove in another run for the Lynx (10-8 overall, 5-4 in North Central Conference), as Jaxon Griffith, Matthew Tesdahl, Trevyn Lyons and Aiden Hrnicek each had an RBI.

For the Gaels (6-5, 3-4), Koleman Hanson had a hit and stole two bases while Hayden Derrig recorded a hit and stole a base. Derrig pitched five innings, allowing just one earned run with five strikeouts.

“We’re still figuring things out,” SEHS head coach Mike Szalat said. “We had some guys in different spots and maybe that is something we do again going forward, and maybe we go back to what we were doing.

“You just can’t give a team extra outs because it will come back to hurt you. I thought we were right there through four before the big fifth inning.”

Leading 1-0, Webster City plated eight runs in the fifth before adding on two more in the sixth. Hrnicek had a triple with Klaver and Griep each recording doubles.

Lyons had two hits with Griep scoring twice.

Grant Galles, one of five different Gael players with a hit, had a double against Braylon Dyvig, who struck out five while walking three to earn his first win of the season on the mound.

“We did a better job of putting the ball in play,” Szalat said. “We’ve got to continue to do that in order to put some pressure on the defense.”

St. Edmond returns to the diamond Tuesday at Pocahontas Area. Webster City heads to Urbandale to face Des Moines Christian that same night.
