Gaels explode for 21 runs

CLARION — The sixth-ranked (Class 1A) St. Edmond softball team exploded for a 21-1 victory over Clarion-Goldfield/Dows here Monday night.

Faith Shirbroun hit a home run, scored four runs, stole five bases and did not allow a hit from inside the circle for the Gaels (10-1 overall, 5-0 in North Central Conference).

Toryn Helle and Ansley Oswald each recorded a double as St. Edmond scored five in the first, 12 in the second and four in the third. Helle was 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBI, Lauren Gibb was 3-for-3 with four runs and two RBI while Kaili Henning finished 4-for-4 with four RBI and two runs scored.

“We came out and did what we needed to do,” SEHS head coach Bill Shirbroun said. “We didn’t let up and that’s what I wanted to see out of the girls.”

Payton Bradley drove in three with Sophia Schlienz scoring twice. Mariah Myers made her return to the lineup, recording a hit with two walks, as Josie Harvey and Myrah Lemon each stole two bases.

St. Edmond returns home on Tuesday to host second-ranked (4A) North Polk at Rogers Park.
