Fort Dodge salvages split

AMES — A seventh-inning rally in the nightcap here Monday resulted in the Fort Dodge baseball team securing a split with Ames.

After dropping the opener, 13-7, the Dodgers took game two, 6-3.

Rylan Kingrey scored on a wild pitch to make it 4-3 and Tru McBride drove in both Jaxson Dencklau and Karch Smith to provide insurance runs.

Dencklau and McBride scored twice in the win while Kolton Schiltz had two hits and drove in a run. Along with driving in two, McBride also stole two bases.

Tanner Peterson pitched the first six innings, as the freshman struck out three to earn the win on the mound. Landen Grandors secured the save with a perfect seventh.

In the opener, Kingrey drove in three and stole two bases while Dalton Eckley hit a solo home run. Schiltz had two hits and an RBI with Dencklau scoring twice.

Landen Hout allowed just three hits and no runs in two-plus innings, striking out one.

Fort Dodge (9-10 overall, 2-4 in Iowa Alliance Conference) scored four in the fourth to cut into an Ames lead but the Little Cyclones answered back with seven in the bottom of the inning.

The Dodgers welcome Des Moines Lincoln to Ed McNeil Field on Wednesday for a doubleheader.
