Dodgers lose ranked road tilt

ANKENY — The eighth-ranked (Class 5A) Ankeny softball team held off No. 3 (4A) Fort Dodge here Wednesday night, 4-3.

The Hawkettes scored a pair of runs in the first and added two more in the fourth to secure the win.

Mackenzie McIlrath had two RBI for the Dodgers. Caileigh Zimmerman recorded a double and scored a run. Meah McCaleb added a hit and scored, with Ellie Doster tallying the other hit.

Hope Alstott had a pair of steals. Lucy Porter struck out eight from inside the circle for Fort Dodge (18-6 overall).

For Ankeny (14-11), Cassie Johnson and Kaylyn Miller both had home runs, driving in four combined runs.

The Dodgers head to the Linn-Mar/Alburnett Tournament on Friday where they will play Mid-Prairie at 12:45 p.m.
