FD girls shut out Hoover

The Fort Dodge girls tennis team closed out their regular season with the first shutout of the year here Wednesday.

Behind a clean sweep of singles and doubles, the Dodgers downed Des Moines Hoover, 11-0.

Manuela Rodriguez, Sydney Gebers, Grace Behrens, Lacey Larson, Janelle Derrig and Claire Thompson were all winners in singles. Rodriguez and Behrens did not drop a game while Gebers and Derrig lost just one.

In doubles, Rodriguez and Behrens pitched a 6-0, 6-0 victory with Gebers and Kaitlyn Folsom, Derrig and Larson, Thompson and Madge Hensley, and Evah Nostrom and Jessenia Elias all winning.

Derrig and Larson along with Nostrom and Ellis did not drop a game.

“I told the girls to take care of business because the forecast did not look great and that is what they did,” FDSH head coach Julie Astor said. “We’ve been working a lot on being more aggressive at the net and I saw that from them in both singles and doubles.”

Fort Dodge now prepares for postseason play as they travel to Marshalltown on Monday for 2A individual regionals. The Dodgers will be joined by the Bobcats, Ames, Cedar Falls, Mason City and Waterloo West.
