Tritons plate 57 runs in rout

WATERLOO — The Iowa Central softball team continues to post eye-popping numbers on the diamond.

In a doubleheader sweep this past Saturday over Hawkeye, the Tritons racked up 57 runs in two games, winning 20-6 and 37-5.

A 17-run first inning got the ball rolling early for Iowa Central, as Aleena Sandy hit two home runs with both Jayda Long and Kennedy Palmer each going deep once.

Long had four hits and drove in three, Sandy plated four runs and Gabriella Taber had three hits with a pair of RBI. Palmer and Kaylee Cary each drove in two as Emma Hoyle picked up the win inside the circle.

In the nightcap, the Tritons exploded for 14 runs in the first and 10 more in the second. Sydney Wilson was 4-for-4 with three home runs, seven RBI and five runs scored. Sandy matched her with three more homers while driving in five, while Breanna Nolte, Carly Ryan and Cary each had five RBI.

Jadeyn Stahr scored the win.

On Sunday, Iowa Central had its 10-game win streak snapped at the hands of No. 9 Kirkwood, 4-2 in nine innings and 9-7.

Long went the distance, striking out five while allowing just five hits. Alexis Hansen recorded a pair of hits and drove in two.

Sandy went deep once more in the second game, driving in three, as Palmer recorded three hits.

ICCC Baseball

CEDAR RAPIDS – The Iowa Central baseball team took a three-game Top-10 series battle with ICCAC rival Kirkwood here over the weekend.

After dropping the opener of the series on Saturday, 4-3, the sixth-ranked Tritons rebounded to take the final two games.

Iowa Central scored a 17-11 victory in Saturday’s nightcap and downed the No. 9 Eagles on Sunday in 10 innings, 7-5.
