Triton softball team rolls
The Iowa Central softball squad roughed up Northeast (Neb.) at home on Wednesday, easily sweeping an ICCAC doubleheader.
Scores were 14-0 and 20-5 in favor of the Tritons, who bounced back in a big way from their narrow losses to nationally-ranked Kirkwood on the road three days ago.
Breanna Nolte drove in 10 runs on the day for Iowa Central (31-13 overall, 14-4 in the league), which has now won 12 of its last 14 games. The freshman from Indianola was 3-for-4 with two runs and three RBI in the opener, then went 4-for-5 with a pair of home runs and seven driven in during the nightcap.
Freshman Kaylee Cary, from Norwalk, also went deep in game two. She was 4-for-4 with three RBI.
Kennedy Palmer and Jayda Long drove in three runs each in the rout. The Tritons landed a 13-run knockout punch to end the contest via the mercy rule in the fifth.
Alexis Hansen, a sophomore from Humboldt, was the Iowa Central standout in game one. She was 4-for-4 with three doubles and four RBI.
Nolte went 3-for-4 and plated three. Gabriella Taber also drove in three and homered, with Cary going deep as well.
The Tritons return to action on Thursday at home in a twinbill against Southwestern, beginning at 2 p.m.
