The Iowa Central softball team rebounded in convincing fashion here Thursday at Rogers Park with a sweep of Hawkeye.

Scores were 14-0 and 8-0 in five innings.

Emma Hoyle had a no-hitter through four-plus in the opener, as Katelyn Dennis finished it off. In the nightcap, Jadeyn Stahr had a one-hitter, striking out four with no walks.

Coming off a pair of shutout losses to ninth-ranked Des Moines Area, the Tritons (21-11 overall, 4-2 in the ICCAC) put all three aspects of the game together.

“I’m proud of them all for showing up,” ICCC head coach Bo Tjebben said. “This is a crazy game. NIACC beat Hawkeye 6-3 and 8-7, and all of a sudden we shut them out.

“We got great pitching, great defense and timely hitting finally.”

Kennedy Palmer had a home run, driving in five on the day in the opener. Aleena Sandy, Gabriella Taber, Alexis Hansen, Morgan Weeks and Kaylee Cary all had two hits, as did Palmer, who also stole a pair of bases.

Sandy and Weeks each drove in three runs, as the Tritons scored in all four innings. Hansen, a Humboldt grad, had a double and a stolen base.

Hoyle, a former Greene County standout, improved to 6-3 on the year inside the circle with five strikeouts.

Taber and Jayda Long both had two hits in game two with Taber driving in a pair and scoring twice. Iowa Central plated five runs in the first inning to take control of the contest early.

Weeks had a double and drove in a run.

“We could have really put up some runs if not for the wind blowing in,” Tjebben said. “Instead, we found the gaps and strung together some big innings.”

The Tritons return to action this weekend with doubleheaders against Iowa Lakes on Saturday and Ellsworth on Sunday.
