EAGLE GROVE — The St. Edmond girls picked up a runner-up team finish here Thursday at the Lady Eagle Relays.

Mariah Myers swept the throwing events for St. Edmond, taking first in the shot put (34-9) and discus (116-8).

“It was good to get outdoors and on a 400-meter track,” SEHS head coach CJ Tracy said. “The elements were tough with it being a little chilly and windy early but I thought we had a lot of good races and a lot of good times.

“We competed well against some bigger schools and have a lot to be proud of moving forward.”

Anna Lursen won the 800 (2:34.04) and Michaela Leiting the 1,500 (5:20.95). The Gaels were also first in the distance medley, 4×800 and meet-ending 4×400 relays.

The distance medley of Faith Shirbroun, Brianna Saathoff, Michaela Leiting and Anna Lursen won by 18 seconds with a time of 4:40.41, while the 4×800 of Leiting, Ellie Knox, Hannah Landwehr and Lursen clocked a time of 10:27.91 and were nine seconds ahead of the runners-up.

Competing in the 4×400 were Knox, Landwehr, Sasha Hess and Lursen, as they went 4:23.09.

“Several of our girls were running three-or-four times,” Tracy said. “We were competitive all night up and down the lineup.”

Hess was the runner-up in the 400 with Josie Harvey placing second in the 100 hurdles and fourth in the 400 hurdles. Landwehr added a third in the 800 and Lily Eslick fourth in the 3,000.

For the Dodgers, Mackenzie McIlrath, Ky’Mariana Mosley, Maeleena Meyer and Lilly Davis each earned a third place medal.

McIlrath tied for third in the high jump, clearing 4-8, and was eighth in the 400.

Davis was third in the 400 in 1:07.75 and Meyer added a third place finish in the 100 hurdles with a time of 17.48.

Mosley, a freshman, scored bronze in the discus with a throw of 99-3 and was also seventh in the shot put.

The FDSH distance medley relay of Tatum Harms, Jonaya Foy, Teryn Rippentrop and Carsyn Zehr finished third and the 4×400 relay of Lucy Porter, McIlrath, Lilly Davis and Maddie Hoshaw was fourth.

“We found some things out and overall it wasn’t a bad night,” FDSH head coach Todd Constable said. “We put that distance medley together late and they really had a nice race. We have a lot of young girls who are only going to get better as the season continues.”

Ava Wessels was sixth in the 100, the sprint medley finished sixth, Madison Carmody was seventh in the 3,000 and Saiya Noborikawa was seventh in the 3,000.

Algona’s Natalie Johnson (100), Amanda Davis (200) and Mara Davis (3,000) were individual champions, as the Bulldogs also won the 4×100, 4×200 and shuttle hurdle relays.
