The St. Edmond girls put on a show at the 43rd annual Dodger Relays on Thursday at the J.H. Nitzke Track.

The Gaels turned in a silver-medal showing, accumulating 121.5 points. They were just behind champion Mason City (125) and ahead of Forest City (117.5).

“I’m very proud of the girls for competing,” said SEHS head coach CJ Tracy. I had a feeling coming in that we could get Top-3, so placing second to an impressive Mason City squad was good to see.

“It wasn’t our best performance overall, but it was good to face this type of environment and competition.”

Mariah Myers and Anna Lursen were both double winners, and the Gaels claimed two relay titles for six championships in all.

Myers and Humboldt’s Ashlynn Works went toe-to-toe in throwing events. Myers captured the shot put with a toss of 37-02, while Works went 34-05 for second.

It was a little closer in the discus, but Myers’ throw of 115-08 bested Works (114-02) for gold.

“She is making steady improvements and racking up the points,” Tracy said. “It was tough throwing into the wind, but she came out on top.”

Lursen doubled up in the 400 and 800. She recorded a time of 1:02.31 to edge Zoey Holmes (1:03.67) of Forest City.

Lursen was the 800 champ in 2:34.86, ahead of Des Moines Roosevelt’s Charlotte McCoy (2:35.39).

“Anna did a solid job in both races (400 and 800),” Tracy said. “She hates to lose and just goes out and competes.

“I will never doubt her effort.”

The Gael quartet of Ellie Knox, Hannah Landwehr, Michaela Leiting and Lursen won the 4×800 (10:11.52) by four seconds over Mason City (10:15.76).

“They (4×8) didn’t quite PR, but they ran well,” Tracy said.

St. Edmond held a six-second advantage of Mason City to win the distance medley (4:40.92). Shirbroun, Landwehr, Sasha Hess and Leiting comprised the team.

“We are trying to figure out what we want to get out of that race (distance medley),” Tracy said. “All four girls had solid times. They competed and ran hard.”

Josie Harvey had two Top-3 finishes, placing second in the 400 hurdles (1:14.74) and third in the 100 hurdles (17.57).

The 4×400 quartet of Knox, Landwehr, Hess and Lursen was third in 4:29.06.

Humboldt

Tayla Wempen was a double gold medalist for the Wildcats. With Sophia Harris’ championship, Humboldt had three titles to finish fourth with 92.5 points.

Wempen jumped 16-02 to win the long jump, and crossed the tape in 13.19 to capture first in the 100-meter dash.

Harris’ time of 1:14.62 placed her first in the 400 hurdles, to go along with two runner-up efforts from Works in the throwing events.

The sprint medley squad of Wempen, Kate Sievers, Gracey May and Bella Metli (2:03.37) finished second.

Sievers, Alivia Goodell, Claire Dieleman and Brynn Malo were third in the distance medley (4:46.99).

The quartet of Wempen, Mia Schluter, May and Sievers placed third in the 4×200 (2:01.02.

Manson Northwest Webster

Alyssa Richman dominated the distance events for the Cougars. Richman doubled up in the 1,500 and 3,000.

Richman crossed the tape in 10:34.49 for the 3000, nearly 40 seconds quicker than Mason City’s Audra Mulholland (11:13.78).

There was a 12-second gap in the 1,500 for Richman (5:08.51), who bested Des Moines Roosevelt’s Charlotte McCoy (5:20.41).

The Cougars were second in the shuttle hurdle relay, led by Kyla Egli, Addison McCullough, Rachel Jones and Lucy Kohren (1:16.81).
