Record night for Gael girls

IOWA FALLS — It was a record-setting night for St. Edmond track and field standouts Mariah Myers and Josie Harvey here Monday.

Myers reset her own new school record in the discus while Harvey broke her own mark in the 100 hurdles by a full second.

As a team, the Gaels placed fourth overall as Grundy Center was first followed by Webster City and host Iowa Falls-Alden. Bishop Garrigan placed fifth and Eagle Grove sixth.

Myers won the discus with a mark of 133-1 and also claimed gold in the shot put. Harvey went 16.57 to place second in the 100 hurdles while also winning the 400 hurdles.

Hannah Landwehr (3,000), Anna Lursen (800) and Lily Eslick (1,500) all walked away with silver medals, as Eslick was also fourth in the 3,000.

The distance medley relay of Faith Shirbroun, Sasha Hess, Lursen and Landwehr placed second with Ellie Knox third in the 800.

“This was a fun night for the girls,” SEHS head coach CJ Tracy said. “The seniors put together the meet and did a great job in doing so.

“We saw some PRs, which was awesome for as chilly as it got. Now, we get ourselves prepared for conference, districts and state. These girls have all put in the work and I’m excited to see how these upcoming meets go.”

Shirbroun, Knox, Myrah Lemon and Hess finished fourth in the 4×200 relay.

Webster City claimed first place finishes in the 4×100, 4×200 and sprint medley relays, while Bishop Garrigan’s Reagan Murphy won the 100 and 200. Her teammate, Abbie Capesius, was first in the 400 with the Golden Bears also claiming the 4×400 relay.

For Eagle Grove, Ayden Feske was the 100 runner-up with the Eagles also taking second in the 4×100 and 4×200 relays.

The Gaels compete Thursday at the North Central Conference meet in Hampton.
