The Fort Dodge boys tennis team dropped a 9-2 decision to Mason City here Tuesday evening.

Micah Flaherty was the lone singles winner for the Dodgers, posting a straight-set victory, 6-1, 6-3. Flaherty and Akramjon Abdurakhimov also won in doubles, 6-3, 3-6 (10-8) at the No. 1 spot over last year’s fourth place state medalists.

Flaherty and Abdurakhimov downed Trenton Kruger and Justin Yarahmadi from Mason City, who placed fourth last year at state.

Abdurakhimov dropped his singles match in a tiebreaker.

“That was a big win for those guys,” FDSH head coach Scott Messerly said. “We continue to get better each and every day.”

Next action for the Dodgers will be Thursday when they travel to Marshalltown.
