Dodger girls grab two golds

MASON CITY — The Fort Dodge girls track team competed in their regular season finale here Monday night, placing third overall.

Securing gold medals for the Dodgers were the sprint medley and 4×200 relays.

The sprint medley consisted of Hope Alstott, Ava Wessels, Meah McCaleb and Lilly Davis, while Wessels, Alejandra Manzanilla, Ashlyn Wills and McCaleb ran the 4×200.

Maddie Hoshaw picked up silver in the 200 and Saiya Noborikawa was second in the 3,000. Fort Dodge was the runner-up in the 4×100, 4×400, 4×800 and distance medley relays.

The 4×100 was Wills, Alstott, McCaleb and Wessels; Davis, Mackenzie McIlrath, Lucy Porter and Hoshaw ran on the 4×400; McIlrath, Hoshaw, Porter and Reina Lacina the 4×800; and Jonaya Foy, Tatum Harms, Kenzie Halverson and Brooklyn Kaloupek the distance medley.

McIlrath was third in the high jump, LJ Maehl third in the 400 hurdles and Madison Carmody third in the 3,000.

“It wasn’t a perfect night to run, but any chance you get to compete, you have to take it,” FDSH head coach Todd Constable said. “We’re still trying to figure things out because we’re still getting girls back from injuries and slowly building them into these events.

“I think we found a few things out that we can work with moving forward.”

The Iowa Alliance Conference meet is scheduled for Des Moines and Williams Stadium on Thursday. From there, the Dodgers head to a Class 4A state-qualifier in Norwalk on May 9.
