HUMBOLDT — The St. Edmond girls distance medley relay put together the third-fastest time in Class 1A this year as they finished second overall here Monday night at the Wildcat Relays.

Algona won the meet with the Gaels second and host Wildcats third.

The quartet of Faith Shirbroun, Brianna Saathoff, Sasha Hess and Anna Lursen went 4:28.5 to win the event.

Hannah Landwehr had a pair of individual runner-up finishes in the 800 and 3,000, while also running on the second place 4×400 relay. Hess, Michaela Leiting and Lursen joined her for that relay.

Leiting was the 1,500 runner-up and grabbed bronze in the 800 with Josie Harvey placing third in the 400 hurdles and fourth in the 100 hurdles.

Mariah Myers scored a silver in the shot put and finished third in the discus.

“It was a really good night competing against some traditionally strong teams in Algona and Humboldt,” SEHS head coach CJ Tracy said. “We’ve seen them both a couple times now this year, so to be competitive with them should give us some confidence moving forward.

“We were able to try some girls in different events and mix our relays up a bit, giving us more options moving forward.”

Ellie Knox, Leiting, Alex Leiting and Reese Lemberg were second in the 4×800 relay.

Algona’s Mara Davis (1,500) and Madison Ehrig (high jump) were winners, along with the Bulldog 4×100, 4×200 and 4×800 relays. Humboldt’s Brynn Malo (3,00) and Tayla Wempen (long jump) also placed first.

Addi Hindt of Southeast Valley captured the 100 hurdles crown, Amanda Davis of Pocahontas Area claimed the 100 and Isabel Grossoehme of Webster City the 800. The Jaguar 4×400 team also finished first.

Gael athletes Alex Leiting (800) and Lily Eslick (1,500) each won junior varsity races, as did the sprint medley of McKenna Kvale, Sophia Schlienz, Myrah Lemon and Andee Barwin. Kvale, Schlienz, Leiting and Lemberg were second in the JV distance medley.

The Gaels return to action this Friday at Hampton-Dumont/CAL.
