Logan Moline, Ben Helmers and Kyan Jones were all named all-state basketball players by the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association.

Moline, a junior who averaged 25 points per game, landed on the Class 2A second team for Manson Northwest Webster.

Along with finishing 11th in the state in scoring, Moline also averaged 9.2 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 2.3 steals per game, shooting 51 percent from the field.

The Cougars posted a 16-8 overall record this season, going 7-4 in the Twin Lakes Conference. Moline’s 600 points this season ended up being 63 shy of the school’s all-time mark, held by Brian Lubeck (663 in 1996-97).

Helmers, a junior from Algona, made the 3A second team after posting just under 21 points per game with 6.6 rebounds, two steals and two assists. Last year, he made third team IPSWA all-state and led the Bulldogs to the Class 3A state tournament.

Algona was 14-8 overall this winter, placing third behind Clear Lake and Humboldt in the North Central Conference.

Jones, a senior who made the 1A third team from North Union, helped the Warriors make their first state tournament appearance. He averaged seven points, six assists, four rebounds and two steals per game, shooting 42 percent from the field.

North Union went 22-4 overall, bowing out in the state quarterfinal round in Des Moines against Top of Iowa West rival and league champion Lake Mills.

Jesse Van Kalsbeek of MOC-Floyd Valley was named Mr. Basketball after helping his team reach the Class 3A semifinals. Van Kalsbeek, who is headed to Northwestern College, averaged 26 points per game.
