Pairings released for national mat

Match assignments for both the Iowa Central men’s and women’s wrestling teams at nationals have been revealed.

The Tritons will embark on their trip to Council Bluffs beginning this Friday at the NJCAA Championships.

Wrestling takes place inside the Mid-America Center and continues through the crowning of winners on Saturday night.

Defending champion Matt Sarbo was one of seven Iowa Central qualifiers to earn a bye through the first round and a seed. Sarbo will enter No. 1 at 149 pounds and face Karsten Jensen of Southwestern Oregon in his first match.

Darnai Heard is the No. 2 seed at 157 and gets Tanner McCracken from Thaddeus Stevens, while Lawrence Rosario secured the four-seed at 174.

Michael Myers at 165, Trystin Irvin at 184 and DJ Moehring at heavyweight are all six-seed at their respective weights, while Joseph Lewis is No. 9 at 197.

They are joined by qualifiers Jaydale Whitlock at 125, Jamey Bruner at 133 and Benjamin Fosdick at 141.

On the women’s side, former Fort Dodge Senior High state champion Alexis Ross is the No. 5 seed at 136 pounds. Ross, a freshman, opens her tournament against Andrea Yates of Southeast.

Bronwyn Brenneman at 130 and Briana Araujo Batista at 170 each earned the two-seed, while Emma Lewis at 101, Dianna Pineda at 109, Aniyah Dinwiddie at 123 and Rodiat Adeduntan at 116 are all the No. 3 seed.

Myah Rausch, Dakota Whitman, Princess Altsisi, Kammie Schanz and Isabella Canada were also given pre-tournament seeds.

The remaining qualifiers for the Triton women include Kailyn Yonger, Rhonda Faye Auradou, Avery Sondall, Anna Sondall, Hadlie Hood, Olivia Fausnaugh and Rose Rother.
