WEBSTER CITY — The Webster City boys put the pressure on St. Edmond here Tuesday night from the opening tip.
The Lynx turned an eight-point halftime advantage into a convincing 62-44 win to secure a split with the Gaels on the year.
Leading the way for Webster City (2-9 overall) was Briar Klaver, as the senior scored 26 points. Earlier this year, the Lynx dropped a 64-56 decision to St. Edmond (6-7) in Fort Dodge.
“They are long and athletic, and really hit the glass hard,” SEHS head coach Adolph Kochendorfer said. “It’s a tough matchup for us with their size and getting (Jack Larson) back to give them even more size.
“You look at (Webster City’s) scores this year and they haven’t been getting blown out. Far from it. They have some really solid ballplayers, and if they put together an effort like that, they are going to win a lot of games the rest of the season.”
Braden Doering, another senior, added 16 points to balance out Klaver’s big night.
For the Gaels, Hunter Horn scored 30 to lead the way.
With the win, Webster City snapped a six-game losing skid that dated back to mid-December when they downed Clarion-Goldfield/Dows, 52-48.
Webster City heads to Clarion-Goldfield/dows on Friday and visits Waverly-Shell Rock Saturday while St. Edmond welcomes in West Bend-Mallard Thursday.
