MARSHALLTOWN — The Fort Dodge boys were unable to overcome a slow start here Friday night, falling to Marshalltown, 62-45.

Cade Westerhoff had a game-high 22 points to lead the Dodgers (0-7 overall, 0-3 in Iowa Alliance North), with Carter Woodruff and Hayden Zuspann each adding six.

For the Bobcats (3-4, 3-0), Kyle Smith had 20 and Carter Giannetto 14.

“It felt like we had tired legs in the first half,” said Fort Dodge head coach Willie Williams. We did better in the second half, we just couldn’t get back.

“We have to play better defense and get healthy.”

Marshalltown built a comfortable 21-6 edge after the first, as Smith scored eight points himself. They added to that advantage, going into the break up by 22.

Cory Smith had 12 of his 13 in the first 16 minutes for the Bobcats, who hit six 3-pointers to win for the eighth straight time vs. Fort Dodge.

The Dodgers close out the pre-holiday portion of their schedule on Monday when they host Spencer. The Tigers are just 2-2 on the season and have not played since Dec. 8.
