HUMBOLDT — For the third consecutive season, the Humboldt High School gym will welcome in high-level collegiate wrestling.

This time, former Wildcat Kevin Dresser will lead Iowa State against an ex-Cyclone in Chris Bono and Wisconsin.

Meet time is set for 2 p.m. on Sunday with the event streaming live on UFC Fight Pass as part of a special collaboration between Cage Fury Fighting Championships and the streaming service of the UFC.

Several more NCAA Div. I meets are expected to stream throughout the season.

“Following the successful Battle at Bragg event last year, we knew we wanted to feature more collegiate wrestling on UFC Fight Pass,” said Crowley Sullivan, Vice President and General Manager of UFC Fight Pass. “Some of the most notable UFC athletes have backgrounds in collegiate wrestling. We’re thrilled to expand our partnership with CFFC and shine a spotlight on these incredible athletes.”

Wisconsin, ranked 18th, features four ranked wrestlers in No. 5 Eric Barnett (125 pounds), No. 14 Joseph Zargo (149), No. 4 Dean Hamiti (165) and No. 27 Max Maylor (174).

Iowa State, meanwhile, is rated 10th with 10 in the Top-25 led by second-ranked David Carr at 165.

Kysen Terukina is 17th at 125, Evan Frost is 18th at 133, Anthony Echemendia (15th) and Jacob Frost (22nd) are both at 141, Cody Chittum is 19th at 157, MJ Gaitan is 22nd at 174, Will Feldkamp is fifth at 184, Julien Broderson is 25th at 197 and Yonger Bastida is seventh at heavyweight.

“We are ready to go, ready for round three,” Dresser said. “Anytime you step on the mat with a Big Ten school, you have to be ready to go. We’re excited, excited to go.”

Bono’s coaching staff also includes former Cyclone Jon Reader. Since taking over the Badgers in 2018, he has directed one NCAA champion, 19 All-Americans and 32 Big Ten Conference winners.

At Iowa State, Bono was an NCAA champion and three-time All-American. He joined the Cyclone coaching staff and spent nine years there before leading both Chattanooga and South Dakota State.

Dresser, a state champion for Humboldt, is in his seventh season with ISU after runs at Virginia Tech and a stint as an assistant at Iowa. He is 208-74 in his career and has led the Cyclones to dual wins over Purdue and Grand View while competing in Humboldt each of the past two seasons.

The Wildcat gym holds 1,300 fans with tickets being awarded through a lottery held last month. Proceeds from the event will go to support the Humboldt Wrestling Club.

At intermission of the dual, the newest inductees into the Humboldt High Wrestling Hall of Fame will be introduced.
