Twenty-two area players earn football honors

Nine area football players were named first team all-state by the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association.

Another 13 made second team all-state for their respective classifications.

Headlining the list were three-time selections Jaxon Cherry of Webster City and Alex Manske from Algona. Cherry, a senior, earned a second honor on the first while Manske scored his initial first team status as a junior.

Bishop Garrigan, which won its first-ever eight-player state championship last week, had four on the first and three more on the second led by captain Caden Roethler.

Keaton Helleseth, Ethan Marso and Drew Lappe joined Roethler on the first with Justin Bauer, Brody Ludwig and Benjy Trainer on the second.

Other eight-player selections included West Bend-Mallard’s Landon Montag on the first and teammate Jaxon Zaugg on the second.

South Central Calhoun’s duo of Keegan Soard and Gavin Batta were honored in A with Luke Wright of East Sac County and Carson Baak of Emmetsburg in 1A.

Greene County’s Jack Hansen made the 2A first team and Nathan Behne was on the second team for a second time.

Porter Reffer of Algona made the first team in 3A with teammate Jack Limbaugh, Webster City’s Brandon Lahr and Humboldt’s Lance Coon and Keegan Groat all on the second.
