Fort Dodge girls open wrestling season

GRIMES — The Fort Dodge girls wrestling team opened their season here Tuesday night against Dallas Center-Grimes and Waverly-Shell Rock.

In the dual against Dallas Center-Grimes, the Dodgers fell, 54-18. Mariaha Benedict earned a 10-second fall at 135 pounds, Maddie Pulis scored a 39-second pin at 170 and Kaitlynn Van Demark won by forfeit at 115.

Araya Fellers won by forfeit at 115 and Pulis scored a fall in 1:03 at 170 against the Go-Hawks, who won the dual, 64-12. Benedict dropped a decision to returning seventh place state finisher and Donnybrook winner Lilly Stough.

Fort Dodge returns to action on Thursday when they host a scramble event inside the FDSH gym with Algona, Eagle Grove, Humboldt, Boone and Des Moines Public all set to compete.
