The Fort Dodge girls wrestling team continues to make strides on the mat.

On Tuesday, the Dodgers captured the first dual victory in school history at the Iowa Central dual tournament, topping Riverside by a final of 36-24.

“We earned the win late in the day, so it wasn’t really a focus for the girls,” said FDSH head coach Jon Koenig. “We will talk about it later and explain how important it is in the grand scheme of the program.

“A lot of teams have some early injuries, and we are without three, so it would have been nice to compete with our full lineup.”

The Dodgers competed in six duals on the day. They lost to Sioux Central (42-36), Decorah (54-15), SWAT (54-30), Denver (36-27) and Spencer (42-18).

Mariaha Benedict (135) and Gracie Harvey both went 6-0. Benedict competed in five matches, winning all by fall.

Harvey (115) wrestled in three matches, earning two decisions and one fall.

“I’m proud of them for going out, competing and fighting in a tough dual tournament,” Koenig said. “They showed that they can wrestle.”

Maddie Pulis (170) and Alejandra Manzanilla (110) had five victories on the day, both recording two falls each.

Macy Brown (130) had four victories, earning three falls. Delaney O’Connor (140) had five victories, three by forfeit and two by fall.

“All of the girls wrestled well,” Koenig said. “Mariaha, Alejandra and Macy had good days.

“Maddie, Gracie and Macy came up with some big wins as well.”

The Dodgers are back in action on Dec. 5 when they travel for the Waverly-Shell Rock tournament.
