Wolverines throttle Riceville, 64-26
WEST BEND — The West Bend-Mallard football team dominated Riceville here Friday night, 64-26.
With the win, the Wolverines move into the second round of the eight-player playoffs. Pairings for those teams will be announced Saturday morning.
Landon Montag had a video-game like performance with eight combined touchdowns. Montag had 241 yards on the ground with five TDs, while throwing for 169 yards and three scores.
Leading 14-8 after the first, West Bend-Mallard (7-2 overall) outscored Riceville (6-3) in the second, 22-6, to take control of the contest. They have posted at least 60 points in four consecutive games and have won six in a row since a loss to defending state champion Remsen St. Mary’s.
West Bend-Mallard’s only other defeat came to Bishop Garrigan, which also advanced to the second round of the playoffs on Friday night.
