Webster City shocks Algona

WEBSTER CITY — Wind, rain and Algona couldn’t Webster City out of the endzone on Friday night.

The Lynx (6-2 overall, 3-1 in district) shutout Algona’s (5-3, 2-2) prolific offense, 47-0 to set up a showdown with district title implications on the line next Friday.

Humboldt (5-3, 3-1) stunned top-ranked Clear Lake, handing the Lions their first overall and district loss of the season.

In Webster City the Lynx burst out to a 35-0 heading into the locker room, forcing a running clock the entire second half.

Jaxon Cherry returned to the backfield and picked up where he left off. He had touchdown runs of three, five and 29 in the first half with 165 yards in the opening 24 minutes.

He finished with unofficially 230 yards and four touchdowns. Cherry added a 17-yard score in the third quarter.

Keegan Hisler had a 29 yard touchdown and Cael Nixon added a five-yard plunge.

The Lynx recovered three of six Algona turnovers, turning two into touchdowns. Webster City turned the ball over three times as well.

With tough weather conditions the two teams fumbled the ball 10 times, recovering five.
