Area teams look to make district push

As postseason looms in the near future, bigger classes look to make separation, while the smaller schools aim to solidify their spot at the top of the charts.

With three more weeks of district play in Class 3A and above and the smaller classes with two left, district championships can clear up or even get more muddy.

Class 3A, District 2 has two frontrunners in Humboldt and Clear Lake, which are both unbeaten in two district tries. The rivals will meet next Friday.

Webster City and Algona are both 1-1 and will square off in a week. Hampton-Dumont/CAL and Charles City are both 0-2 in district action and need to find their footing.

Humboldt and Algona will meet for the 107th time in the series and will play for the first time in the newly named “Battle of Highway 169” traveling trophy.

The two schools have played every year since starting the series, except for three seasons.

Algona currently leads the series 53-50-3.

In Class A, District 7, South Central Calhoun has a chance to distance itself from the rest of the district outside of the top spot.

After losing to ACGC, which is unbeaten, the Titans are the only team in the league with one loss. They will face Panorama, which is also 4-2 overall and 2-2 in the district.

There are two area matchups, as Southeast Valley heads to Greene County and East Sac County travels to Manson Northwest Webster.

Humboldt (4-2, 2-0) at Algona (4-2, 1-1)
