Algona wins 169 trophy

ALGONA — This time Algona will be bringing home a trophy.

In the 107th meeting with Humboldt, this time in the newly designed Battle of Highway 169, it was the Bulldogs (5-2 overall, 2-1 district) who ended a four-game win streak by the Wildcats (4-3, 2-1).

Alex Manske ran for three touchdowns as the Bulldogs pulled away late for a 34-17 victory.

Algona took a 14-3 lead on a three-yard touchdown run from Manske and a 53-yard jaunt on a double-reverse by Jayden Erpelding.

Nolan Gustafson kicked a 20-yard field goal for the Wildcats’ only first half points.

Humboldt reached the end zone on a Coen Matson 10-yard touchdown strike to Jackson Dodd.

Lance Coon gave the Wildcats the lead with a two-yard run on the first possession of the second half.

The Bulldogs then scored three unanswered touchdowns, started by a seven-yard scamper from Evan Allie.

Manske added a 32-yard touchdown and an eight-yard score late in the contest.

Manske finished with 19 carries for 133 yards and Allie had 24 totes for 107 yards.

Algona, a balanced offensive team ran for 309 yards and held Coon to 42 yards.

Cougars clinch playoff spot

MANSON — The Manson Northwest Webster football team secured a postseason bid here Friday night with an 8-0 victory over East Sac County.

Kamden Birkey had the lone touchdown of the game, darting into the end zone from three yards out. He finished the night with 17 carries for 93 yards.

Matt Condon recorded the two-point conversion, adding 65 yards rushing on 14 carries.

Logan Moline was 6 of 8 passing for 95 yards as the Cougar defense ended two Raider drives with interceptions in the red zone courtesy Condon and Caydin Anderson.

This was the first meeting between the Twin Lakes Conference rivals since 2011, when Manson NW won, 31-0.

Six in a row for Golden Bears

RUTHVEN — Bishop Garrigan inched closer to a district championship on Friday.

The Golden Bears (6-1 overall, 6-0 overall) beat GTRA (3-4, 2-4) 48-20.

Caden Roethler and Tate Foerstch accounted for three touchdowns each.

Roethler had touchdown runs of five, six and 14 yards. He finished the night with 153 yards on 23 carries.

Foerstch had touchdown runs of two and 24 yards. He threw a five-yard touchdown to Wyatt Rosenmeyer, his first touchdown of the season.

Foerstch ran for 52 yards and threw for 94 yards.

Ethan Marso led the defense with 13 tackles and an interception.

Sam Plathe had 12 tackles and Brody Ludwig had 11 and a sack.

Drew Lappe had seven tackles and two interceptions.

Nixon has big game for Webster City

CHARLES CITY — Webster City ran all over Charles City on Friday night.

The Lynx (5-2 overall, 2-1 district),who were playing without Jaxon Cherry, rolled past Charles City, 49-13.

Cael Nixon had four touchdowns, while Keegan Hisler had two and Eli Estlund had one.

Hisler had the long run of the night from 55 yards.

Webster City will finish the season with home games against Algona and Humboldt.

Jaguars earn 5th victory

JEFFERSON — The Southeast Valley football team earned their fifth victory of the season, knocking off Greene County.

The Jaguars (5-2 overall, 2-2 district) beat the Rams (3-4, 1-3) 26-21.

Cael Vansickle accounted for three touchdowns.

Vansickle ran for one and six yard touchdowns.

He also hit Jace Hanson for a 55-yard scoring strike.

Vansickle finished with 130 yards on 24 carries.

Brady Hanson had 88 yards on 16 carries.

The Jaguars had 382 yards of total offense.
