Cougars break into win column

POCAHONTAS — The Manson Northwest Webster football team jumped into the win column for the first time this season on Friday.

The Cougars (1-3 overall) held off district rival Pocahontas Area by a final of 24-20.

Kamden Birkey got the Cougars on the board first with a one-yard touchdown plunge. After an Indian score, Quarterback Logan Moline socred on a quarterback sneak for a 12-7 advantage.

The Indians took a 14-12 halftime edge.

With a little over seven minutes left in the game Moline hit Tatuem Hanson from 45 yards out for an 18-14 lead.

The Indians used a squib kick to the 40-yard line. Moline connected with Matt Condon for a 34-yard play to the 11 with 59 seconds left.

Moline connected with Condon to put the Cougars up 24-20 with 45 seconds remaining.

The Cougars stopped the Indians at the 13-yard line for the win.

Three wins in a row for Bears

ALGONA — After losing their first game of the season, Bishop Garrigan has now reeled off three straight victories.

The Golden Bears (3-1 overall) defeated Northwood-Kensett 59-22 on Friday night.

Quarterback Tate Foerstch threw three touchdown passes.

Foerstch was 5-for-7 for 118 yards. He connected with Justin Bauer (67 yards), Drew Lappe (37) and Owen Murphy (14).

Bauer returned an interception 49 yards for a score.

Ethan Marson (1 yard) and Caden Roethler (21) had rushing TDs.

Keaton Helleseth had seven tackles, including two sacks.

Marso and Brody Ludwig had six tackles each. Benjy Trainer had five tackles and a fumble recovery.
