No. 10 Gaels coast, 12-1

IOWA FALLS — Ahead of their first tournament action of the season, the 10th-ranked (Class 1A) St. Edmond softball team took care of Iowa Falls-Alden here Friday night, 12-1 in five innings.

Kaili Henning spun a two-hitter, striking out nine for the Gaels (7-1 overall, 4-0 in the North Central Conference).

Faith Shirbroun hit her second home run of the season, going 3-for-4 with two RBI, two steals and two runs scored. Lauren Gibb, Ansley Oswald and Anna Kolacia each had three hits, while Henning, Payton Bradley and Sophia Schlienz each had two.

“It was good to see us continue attacking at the plate,” SEHS head coach Bill Shirbroun said. “We have a big one coming up Saturday, so having this momentum is important.”

Oswald stole two bases and scored three runs with an RBI and a triple, while sister Hadley Oswald also swiped two of the 12 St. Edmond steals on the night.

Gibb drove in a run, Bradley had a pair of RBI and Kolacia stole a base. Schlienz, an eighth-grader, also had two RBI with Josie Harvey scoring a run.

“Kaili was strong again inside the circle and continues to get better with each game,” Shirbroun said.

The Gaels head to Carroll for the CYO Tournament on Saturday. They play No. 3 (1A) Remsen St. Mary’s at 10 a.m. and Sioux City Heelan at 2 p.m.
