Moline, Cougars stop Gaels
MANSON — Lane Moline kept the St. Edmond hitters at bay and helped his own cause here Thursday night, leading the Manson Northwest Webster baseball team to a 9-5 victory.
Moline struck out nine batters and was 2-for-2 with three runs, two RBI and a triple for the Cougars.
Jaydin Anderson had two steals and scored three runs, while Austin Jaeschke had three steals with a hit and an RBI. As a team, Manson Northwest Webster swiped 10 bases.
Alec Whitehill, Dillon Manthei and Anderson each had a hit, while Dylan Meyer drove in a run.
“We had a couple tough innings to start, but I thought we really adjusted well as the game continued,” SEHS head coach Mike Szalat said. “Joe Shanks was my baseball coaching mentor and I thought his kids always did a great job of adjusting throughout a game. So far this season, we’ve really taken ownership of that.”
For the Gaels, Kinnick Henning, Johnny Dickerson, Ethan Swisher and Grant Galles all drove in a run, while Galles was 2-for-3 with a run scored. JT Laufersweiler stole two bases.
“Many of our mistakes are fixable ones,” Szalat said. “I thought we had some younger kids really get good, solid hits off a good pitcher in Lane Moline. Johnny Dickerson talked to the guys after about coming in with a different approach and adjusting to the game, which is great to see.”
St. Edmond returns to action Friday night when they host Clear Lake at Rogers Park beginning at 7:30 p.m.
