No. 8 Tritons now 17-1 after home sweep

The eighth-ranked (NJCAA Div. II) Iowa Central baseball squad extended their win streak to 13 with a doubleheader sweep of Dakota County at Rogers Park on Monday.

The Tritons (17-1 overall, 2-0 in the ICCAC) beat the Blue Knights by scores of 15-4 and 14-9.

Quade Peters, Josh Blount and Will Smoot had two hits each in the opener. Peters had two triples and drove in two runs.

Blount also added two RBI. Smoot drove in five runs and hit a home run.

The Tritons duplicated their efforts in the second game with another 12-hit effort.

Peters, Evan Borst and Michael Siemer recorded two hits each. CJ Byrdak had a strong effort on the mound.

“We did a good job offensively,” said Iowa Central head coach Eric Stein. “We had eight extra-base hits.

“I thought we had our best at bats of the season up and down the lineup against good arms.”

The Tritons are back at home on Tuesday when they face Century. They will open conference play on Wednesday at home against Southwestern. First pitch is at 1 p.m.
