SE Valley girls handle Gaels

GOWRIE — The St. Edmond girls couldn’t overcome a rough finish to the first half here Tuesday night, falling to Southeast Valley by a final score of 57-30.

Down just 9-6 after the first quarter and trailing by four with two-plus to go in the half, turnovers led to easy buckets for the Jaguars.

“We just had too many mistakes,” SEHS head coach CJ Tracy said. “We were down four going into the half and all of a sudden it was 28-15.

“Silly mistakes, bad passes, not moving their feet on defense are the little things that hurt us, but they are also correctable things. Once we do that, we’ll be in a better situation.”

Alex Kitchen scored 17 points to lead Southeast Valley, while Kenna Scott added 15 and Madison Lane 11.

“Kitchen really hurt us on the glass,” Tracy said. “She was all over the place.

“We are putting together two good quarters here or two good quarters there, but not a full game.”

For the Gaels, Katie Flaherty scored seven points and Lauren Gibb chipped in six.

St. Edmond returns to action on Thursday when they host South Hamilton. The Jaguars host Emmetsburg on Friday.
