Defending champ Jaguars looking strong early

Eighth-ranked Southeast Valley will look to start the season 3-0 for the fourth straight campaign as they travel to face Hampton-Dumont/CAL on Friday night.
The defending Class 2A state champions have knocked off Emmetsburg (28-14) and Interstate-35 (20-7) in their first two outings.
Senior Justin Loseke looks to become the school's career tackles leader. Loseke, who is fourth in Class 2A, with 22.5 tackles so far in 2022, is sitting at 218.5 career takedowns. He trails only Iowa true freshman and former teammate Aaron Graves (221) in the category.
Loseke is the son of Fort Dodge Senior High graduates Jeff Loseke and Dawn (Anderson) Loseke.
Last week against Emmetsburg, senior Eli Johnson had a breakout game. He caught eight balls, three of which were for touchdowns, and racked up 151 yards. Johnson had a long score of 64 yards.
Sophomore quarterback Cale Vansickle was a perfect 4-for-4 passing for 70 yards and two touchdowns, while Dalton Crouse threw for 186 yards and a TD.
Carl Berglund had 89 yards on the ground, thanks in large part to a 54-yard touchdown. On the season, Berglund has 122 yards and two scores, while Brady Hanson has two touchdowns as well.
The Jaguars, who are looking for their seventh straight win overall, have won the last three matchups in consecutive seasons. Hampton-Dumont has wins over West Fork (44-7) and Iowa Falls-Alden (34-7).
On the season, Bulldog quarterback Gavin Meader has thrown for 331 yards and three touchdowns.
Marco Guerrero has four rushing TDs to lead the offense and Scott Harr has two receiving scores.
Last week in the win over the Cadets, Meader threw for 129 and two scores. Guerrero had two rushing touchdowns.
Webster City (1-1) at No. 3 Waverly-Shell Rock (2-0)
After dropping their first game of the season, Webster City went back to the ground and rushed for 428 yards in a 54-0 win over Boone.
Jaxon Cherry carried the ball 20 times for 218 yards and four touchdowns. Cherry's long score of the night was a 73-yard jaunt.
CJ Hisler, Cael Nixon and Luke Estlund also had rushing touchdowns. Keegan Hisler caught a touchdown pass from Ty McKinney.
Waverly-Shell Rock beat the Lynx last year, 31-14. The two teams have split games in their last six meetings.
The Go-Hawks are coming off a 35-0 shutout of Crestwood. Against the Cadets Cole Marsh threw for three touchdowns and rushed for one. Hagarty McCrae had 122 yards on the ground and one touchdown.
On the season McCrae has 261 yards on 30 totes and two scores. Asa Newsom has 185 yards and three touchdowns. Marsh has run for three scores.
No. 2 Humboldt (2-0) at Estherville-LC (1-1)
Humboldt's offense came alive last week, while the defense kept another team out of the end zone.
The Wildcats earned their second straight shutout, knocking off Garner-Hayfield Ventura (37-0) following their 10-0 win over Webster City.
Last week, Lance Coon ran for 191 yards on 14 carries. He had a long score of 76 yards to go along with 13.6 yards per carry.
Corey Dettman had a touchdown, and Joshua Thurm threw a touchdown pass to Will Orness.
Dettman led the defense with a 61-yard punt return for a score as well.
The Midgets are coming off a 43-14 loss to West Lyon. Quarterback Owen Larson threw for 268 yards. Larson ran for 64 yards and two touchdowns.
This season, Larson has 342 yards passing and one score. On the ground he has rushed for 158 and three trips to paydirt.
Greene County (2-0) at Carroll Kuemper (2-0)
Both Greene County and Carroll Kuemper are on the verge of breaking into the Class 2A rankings.
The Knights are 9-4 in the last 13 meetings between the two schools, but the Rams have won the most recent two matchups.
Greene County is coming off a 61-0 whitewashing of Perry, while Carroll Kuemper knocked off Atlantic (37-22).
In the win over the Bluejays, Gabe Ebersole threw for 144 yards and four touchdowns and ran for a score. Jesse Miller had two touchdown catches, while Jack Hansen and Richard Daugherty had one each.
Ebersole has thrown for five touchdowns and 230 yards. He has two rushing scores for 162 yards. Miller has three TD catches.
Last week for the Knights, DJ Vonnahme threw for 239 yards and four scores. Trevor Rial had two scoring catches and Carson Kanne and Benjamin Gerken caught touchdowns.
Vonnahme has 371 yards passing and six touchdown strikes. Logan Sibenaller has run for 219 yards and two scores.
Rial and Gerken have two TD catches each.
West Bend-Mallard (1-1, 1-0) at Bishop Garrigan (2-0, 1-0)
In the first eight-man meeting between West Bend-Mallard and Bishop Garrigan a year ago, it was the Golden Bears who came away with a 34-29 victory last season.
Garrigan is off to a hot start in 2022, with a victory over Janesville (52-6) and a 32-14 win over North Iowa last week.
Garrett Heying threw two touchdown passes and had a one-yard TD run. Heying hooked up with Cal Birkey and Aidan Hovey.
Birkey added an eight-yard touchdown run. Caden had a 15-yard score.
The Wolverines are coming off a 66-22 win over St. Edmond where Max Fehr and Landon Montag had career days. West Bend-Mallard ran for 537 yards against the Gaels.
Fehr rushed for 275 yards on 29 carries and four touchdowns. Montag had 160 yards and five scores. Fehr also threw a touchdown to Sam Fehr.
